Sleep Token| Chokehold Tesla Cover
Our Second offering to Sleep. When we did The Summoning we recorded this portion of chokehold at the same time. We really want to try the coils on Vessel incredibly vocal runs near the end of the song. It turned out great and we kind of regret not doing the entire song.
Animals As Leaders| Cafo Tesla Coil Cover
We wanted to try something more technical and high tempo than previous songs and nothing better than Animals as Leaders. There’s some incredibly intricate parts in Cafo that really put the coils through their paces. When we finally build a newer type of Tesla Coil we’d love to get Tosin Abasi or Javier Reyes from the band to play Guitar directly through the coils.
We put a band in lightning! Immortal Girlfriend| Others
This was a pivotal project for us. Immortal Girlfriend is an awesome Synthwave band from our hometown of Milwaukee. We originally wanted to cover one of their songs and not only did we do that we ended up putting on a live show with them at the Dresden Castle And had coils backing them up the whole show. We also invited Starcadian who headlined the show. This is video is one of very few recordings of a band performing their own music on coils while standing in coils. We’re extremely grateful Kevin and Will of Immortal Girlfriend tackled this project with us and we hope to work with them more in the future.
Sleep Token With lightning!
Sleep token’s The Summoning was our first tesla coil cover. Sleep tokens music works so incredibly well on coils and its a big dream of ours to have coils on stage with them or collaborate on a project. Until then we’ll probably steadily do covers of their music. The changeups, tone, and rhythm make for really interesting covers.
Neon Head Δ Starcadian | Tesla coil Cover
We got to work with the legendary Starcadian! Synthwave/retrowave/outrun is one of our favorite genres and most music of the genre works both audibly and visually with tesla coils. Neon head was the perfect song of starcadian’s to do (even though interspace is my favorite) because it worked perfect start experimenting with neon in the coils. The triangle is real neon glass that we wired together into a triangle for Starcadians signature look. The electric field form the coils and the arcs them self excite the neon inside the glass and cause it to light up! This is easily one of our favorites so far.
Oppenheimer | Tesla Coil Cover
Can you hear the Music by Ludwig Goransson was instantly a top choice for us. Sam at Musx and the mastermind behind the coils has a degree in music composition so this piece was right up his alley. This was our first attempt at an “accapella” style cover where we had the coils play nearly every part in the piece. It was definitely a challenge to mix it well enough that it didn’t become a wall of buzzing noise. Overall we think it turned out really well and probably the best part is the coil that plays the horn section of the song which is the most iconic and tactile part of the piece. The coils match horn sections really well and its actually fairly hard to distinguish the coil from the horn.
Dethrone - Bad Omens | Lightning Tesla Coil Cover
Bad omens is one of the crews current favorite bands so out of passion we really wanted to cover one of their songs. We chose dethrone because it was a good opportunity to see how the coils could mirror screaming vocals. Most of the long guttural screams worked really well. We’ve also found almost every breakdown in a metal song is where the coils shine the best. The teams favorite part is the breakdown by far.
The Tesla Knight Vs Lightning MKE Maker Faire 2018
This is probably the first POV footage of someone walking in lightning. It was taken at the Milwaukee Makerfaire in the state faire expo building in 2018. This is a performance I had done 6 years in a row for 4-8000 people over a few show Saturday and Sunday. It featured various effects with interacting with the lightning including me walking in it, a flaming sword, explosive balloons, drawing with the arcs, and showing the arcs jump out of my feet when I jump. I had a Gopro on my chest throughout the performance and there’s even parts where you can see the arc dance around the lens! My Gopro did need a few hard resets after the show but luckily it was still working and the footage was fine.
Secrets by Tiesto and KSHMR played with real lightning! Tesla Coil Cover
EDM lends itself super well to coils and the main chorus in secrets fits perfectly. The overall Timbre and quality of the synth Tiesto and KSHMR use is nearly identical to the real life sound of the coils so they fit into the mix really well.
The Word Alive - Strange Love| Tesla Coil Cover
Our first official Tesla Coil cover video. We got in contact with Zack Hansen, the guitarist of The Word Alive and requested we cover a song from their newest album at the time “Hard Reset”. This project was awesome and one of the first times we incorporated neon into the coil performance. We had to wrap the neon glass in a copper wire to prevent the arcs from passing through the glass and breaking the neon. It added a great effect that matched the aesthetic of their album and added a bit of extra spectacle on top of the coil.
Rook goes grocery shopping
This was a quick project we did after having a photoshoot in my suit. I didn’t have any good photos after finishing it and on our way back we stopped at the grocery store and filmed this project. This was shot back in 2018 and its crazy how good a quick off the cuff project can turn out.
